, volunteer trail manager, will be doing trail clean up to take care of trimming back side vegeteation growth and clearing small debris out of grade reverals/drainage channels. Contact him if you'd like to volunteer to help out. BACKGROUND: The initial group of riders involved with volunteering to build single-track in Tillamook State Forest as part of the "mountain bike area" were directed to complete a section of trail near Storey Burn trailhead back in 2006. This trail served as a "good faith" project between the riders and Oregon Department of Foresty (Forest Grove District), and lead to more in depth design of trail network for FR/DH (now currently on hold pending Tillamook Recreation Advisory Committee (TRAC) discussions pertaining to recreation use and an updated ODF management plan for area).
STATUS: Westside Trail Federation now has adopted this trail and designated a trail manager (

) who has taken charge of on-going maintenance of this trail loop. Sickter Lars is currently OPEN, however requires some basic maintenance to trim back side growth vegetation and to remove some hazards. Side-Note: Last year there was some re-route work at end of Sickter Lars to bypass an unsustainable fall line trail down to the parking area (re-route follows contour further and there are S-berms to slow riders as they decend back to parking area). The original fall line trail bed was roughed up, logs placed across corridor, and ferns were replanted to hide the sight line while the trail "healed itself". This is what the section now looks like (yup, what trail?)... looks like nothing was ever done to this area (see photo below). Great reclaimation work! GENERAL: If you have not yet ridden the Sickter Lars mountain biking loop, it's a short one-way 1.2 mile loop from Storey Burn trailhead in Tillamook State Forest. It's "mountain bike only"! Was designed by Lars, an avid XC rider as a challenging trail with small root roll overs and some log up and over crossings. First half of loop is uphill, remaining half is downhill (whoo hoo!). There are couple of narrow bridge sections over some winter stream run off areas. Any XC bike will do, but an all-mountain bike would be best - especially for the downhill stretch back to trailhead. Again, w.t.f. did not design this trail, but because ODF needed a volunteer group to help maintain it - we stepped forward to finish the trail and undertake trail maintenance. However, our main aim with engaging with ODF Forest Grove district is to design, plan, and build a DH/FR trail network across the valley on Larch Mountain (in Tillamook State Forest) within Tillamook / Washington county.
